These are the Best Beer Gardens in Berlin!

Fancy some cool refreshments on a hot summer's day? How about an evening in the beer garden? Annabelle Georgen, gastro editor of Berlin's big queer city magazine SIEGESSÄULE, has picked out the most beautiful and interesting beer gardens. This is where the queer community has fun!

First beer garden, then club: Birgit & Bier in Kreuzberg.

Birgit & Bier

The open-air club 'Birgit & Bier' is lovingly decorated in the shabby-chic style typical of Berlin. Flea market tables and lamps, as well as the wooden decorations, make the whole place look like a mini festival. The associated beer garden has almost nothing to do with Bavarian drinking culture. In addition to freshly tapped beer, guests can order pizza. Surrounding it, the colourful crowd celebrates in the 'Club der Visionäre' (Visionaries' Club), among other places. 'Birgit & Bier' also transforms into a party location with three dance floors after sunset.

The "Pratergarten" in Prenzlauer Berg is Berlin's oldest beer garden.

Pratergarten

The 'Pratergarten' is a Berlin institution and it's only a few steps away from another queer landmark, the ‘Tuntenhaus’. This is a gay house project that has proudly embraced and celebrated queer culture since the 1990s. The shabby façade of the house at Kastanienallee 86, with its anti-capitalist slogans, is undoubtedly worth a photo on the way to the 'Pratergarten' (but please refrain from an unannounced visit to the house). In the 'Pratergarten', Berlin's oldest beer garden, waiters have been serving freshly tapped beer at long, rustic wooden tables under chestnut trees since 1837. In summer, it's often packed and the typical Bavarian beer garden atmosphere prevails. In keeping with this, the menu includes home-brewed beer, pretzels, and hearty Bavarian dishes.

The most beautiful beer garden in the Tiergarten: Café am Neuen See.

Café am Neuen See

The 'Café am Neuen See' is undoubtedly the most scenic beer garden in Tiergarten. On hot days, you can enjoy a freshly tapped beer and down-to-earth German cuisine in the shade of old chestnut trees, complete with a view of the lake. If you fancy, you can rent a rowing boat and take a romantic trip on the lake.

Biergarten Jäger & Lustig

The pretty little beer garden 'Jäger & Lustig' is located in the middle of Friedrichshain and is therefore particularly suited to an early start to night life. The pub mile on Simon-Dach-Straße and the RAW area with its clubs are just around the corner. The beer garden has a wide selection of beers on offer, to be enjoyed at the sun-kissed wooden tables. If you get a little hungry, the restaurant at 'Jäger & Lustig', furnished in the style of a modern Berlin pub, serves traditional local specialities, from pork knuckle to Berliner meatballs and Kalter Hund (German chocolate biscuit cake, served cold).

Bavarian beers under ancient, gnarled chestnuts: The "Zollpackhof" on the Spree.

Zollpackhof Biergarten

Directly on the banks of the Spree and opposite the contemporary architecture of the Federal Chancellery buildings, the 'Zollpackhof' offers one of the most spectacular beer garden views in Berlin. In the shade of horse chestnut trees that are over 150 years old, you can gaze out over the Spree and watch the sightseeing boats chug along. The 'Zollpackhof Biergarten' was opened in cooperation with the well-known Augustiner brewery and serves only its own beers. Of course, the typical Bavarian menu is not to be missed.
