Queer Hip-Hop Parties in Berlin

For two years the pandemic restricted Berlin's queer hip-hop scene. Now it is finally flourishing again! DJ Caramel Mafia is right in the middle of it. At Place2be.Berlin he recommends seven queer and queer-friendly parties for everyone who feels like totally indulging in RnB and hip-hop while partying!

Ecstasy at Rachet Berlin - info on the venue is available on the party series' social media channels

Rachet Berlin

At Rachet Berlin, which my DJ colleague and best friend Offbeatsupport and I set up, you can look forward to a great line-up and really good DJs that you usually hear mainly at festivals. We often have queer rappers from Europe and sometimes from America. They play hip-hop, dancehall, and really good Afrobeats. At the moment, the party doesn't have a fixed location, but we always announce where the next party venue is on our social media channels.

Queer Hip-Hop, RnB and Afrobeat at "Tasty" in "SchwuZ".

Tasty

Once a month, Rachet also hosts a floor at SchwuZ called Tasty. I particularly like this party. Several floors are open - DJs play Oriental music on one of them, and you can also enjoy Arabic and Turkish music. Sometimes there is also belly dancing. On yet another floor we make sure that the guests dance to hip-hop, RnB and Afrobeats. You can find the exact party dates on the SchwuZ website.

The party Freak de l'Afrique impresses with an insane line-up full of music from African countries and acts from the Diaspora

Freak de l‘Afrique

Freak de l'Afrique is a queer-friendly party organised by a mate and I can definitely recommend it. They have a cool line-up with music mainly from African countries, but also from acts currently living in the diaspora. There is also a lot of hip-hop and RnB. I also like the locations that host the party.

Of course there's also queer-feminist hip-hop, for example at the Hoe_mies party.

Hoe_mies

I can also recommend the Hoe_mies. This is a party by Lucia Lu and Meg10, a feminist collective that is also very active in the queer field. Two of their main focuses are hip-hop and RnB, although the parties take place at irregular intervals and in changing locations. Almost all the DJs are women and people read as female. We got to DJ there once and were the first cis men to be given that honour.

Berries

The Berries is a party series at Ohm, a club in a former power station in Berlin-Mitte. In keeping with the location, which I like a lot, the Berries play hip-hop that is a bit more experimental. From time to time they also host live acts there.

GMF's Kiki Balls

If you're into voguing, you should definitely check out the Kiki Balls that the GMF throws. The GMF cooperates with various voguing houses for this. The parties are irregular at the moment, so it's worth checking regularly. If you're into voguing, it's pretty cool.

Actually, the "Rosa Caleta" is a pop-up restaurant. But sometimes the team organises parties that become legends.

Rosa Caleta

Rosa Caleta is the perfect place to grab a snack in between meals, as it's a pop-up restaurant. Its speciality is fusion cuisine with a Jamaican focus. However, the Rosa Caleta team also organises highly recommended parties from time to time - including a legendary block party that you have to experience!
